State Rivals, Seminoles & Gators

2018 Game Recap

The tension was running high, blood was pumping, adrenaline running through each and every player on the field. The two Florida rival football teams were back at Dick Howser stadium on Bobby Bowden field for a head to head match up on November 24th 2018.

I had the opportunity to be on the field for the pre-game warm ups and was able to witness the excitement and nerves first hand. The atmosphere felt tense but exciting.

Game Recap:

The tensions were high. This game is played every year as thousands of UF and FSU fans gather in Tallahassee, FL or in Gainesville, FL for the game. The stadium was full, while 3/4 of the fans were Noles. FSU quarterback Deondre Francois was ready to go. The quarter didn’t start out like he wanted. The Gators had already scored a few touchdowns and were pulling ahead. Though, they still had hope to hang onto. The Noles still had plenty of time to make a comeback and pull ahead of the Florida Gators. Half time came quickly, after the first and second quarter the score was 13 to 7 with the Gators in the lead. The Noles had a 15 yard pass to Francois for a touchdown and the teams kicker Ricky Aguyo kicked a successful field goal. The Gators had two successful field goal attempts and one touch down in the half.

After half time, the Gators were on fire while the Noles were trying to regain the lead. Gator’s quarterback F Franks threw two more passes that were caught in the end zone for two touchdowns and had two more successful field goal attempts for the extra point on both. FSU quarterback ran in another touchdown bringing the score to 27 to 14 with UF still leading. In the fourth quarter the Noles had no gains and began losing momentum. The Gators scored another two touchdowns with two more successful field goals bringing the final score to 41 to 14 at the end of the game. Better luck next year Noles…

Ashlea Rivest, Entrepreneur

Ashlea Rivest is a local entrepreneur who is also my oldest sister. She is a 29 year old who lives in Monticello, FL with her husband Matt. I have had the privilege of seeing her journey unfold as a entrepreneur and business woman first-hand, but also have had the opportunity to write a profile on her. Everyone has a different perspective on life, so it was wonderful to talk with her and learn from her personal experiences and to see what she gained and learned through her on going journey.

Below is the interview with Ashlea Rivest:

Where were you born/where did you grow up? How do you think that helped shape you into who you are today?

“I was born in Valdosta, GA and moved to Tallahassee, FL when I was three years old. My parents opened a store in Tallahassee so we moved for their jobs. I think being from the south, this culture really helped shape my personality. The south is known for being kind and giving, and I feel like I truly inherited those qualities because that’s the culture I was raised in.”

Where did you go to college and why did you choose the major that you did?

“I attended Tallahassee Community College for two years where I earned my A.A. degree. After graduating I took a job managing a local non-profit organization here in Tallahassee and fell in love with it. In 2015 I decided that completing was the best thing for me, and I graduated from Barry University in 2017 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. I chose this major specifically because I knew I was interested in business, and I had future plans to open my own business one day.”

What is your biggest accomplishment?

“In 2013 I began seeing my dream for opening my own store really come to life. At this point I had left my job with the non-profit organization and was setting my sights on refinishing antique furniture. That is where my dream really set sale. I began redoing various pieces and they sold quickly. I set up booths as a vendor at local markets which helped my business to take flight. A year later I opened my store front in Monticello, FL called Magnolia South. There we thrived and continued growing a customer base and made the decision to move the storefront to nearby historic downtown Thomasville, GA. At this point, I made the decision to rebrand my business with a new name and a more modern look in hopes to help grow my customer base even more. I always tell people, you keep your dream from coming true by not trying. So get out there and go for it. You don’t know if you can fly if you don’t actually try.”

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
